Meta's WhatsApp is now rolling out Passkeys support for the iPhone version of the app. This means that users will only have to set up their accounts once with a password login and never have to input it again.

Passkeys use a device's biometrics login method to authenticate the account access. For iPhones, this means either the Face ID or Touch ID (for iPhone SE, if it is updated to the latest version).

The availability began now and is slowly rolling out to users, with more getting the faster and more secure login method via the Passkeys tech.

The latest update from WhatsApp brings a long-introduced feature known as Passkeys, with the iPhone app version now supporting the technology for an easier and more secure login.

According to Engadget, Meta now confirmed this rollout for the iOS version, as last year's Passkey support was first given to Android users of the app.

"Passkey verification will make logging back into WhatsApp easier and more secure. We're excited to launch this on WhatsApp and give users an added layer of security," Alice Newton-Rex, WhatsApp's head of product, said in a statement.

Set Up Passkeys for a Passwordless Login

Setting up Passkeys is relatively easy, but the app would not offer it to users when they launch it, and they have to go to the Settings page to access it.

Users need first to launch the app and choose 'Settings.' Next, choose 'Account' and look for 'Passkeys.'

This will prompt a user to log in to their existing WhatsApp account, which they currently use when they choose to 'Create Passkey.'

It will have users scan their Face ID or Touch ID to complete the setup.

Passkey and What It Offers

Last year, Meta rolled out the Passkeys to WhatsApp on the app's beta testing program, and those who participated could experience the passwordless login feature firsthand.

It allows users to set up passwordless authentication to their accounts when logging in to their devices, and it claims to bring a more secure experience.

Other apps and platforms also adopted the Passkey, which is available on both iOS and Android, given that they have compatible devices that support passwordless authentication.

Switch users were also allowed to log in faster and without any hassle when Nintendo adopted Passkey support last year. Their accounts only needed their Face ID for iPhone access.

Google, Amazon, and other Big Tech companies have also released support for Passkey, and Apple is known for integrating it within apps available on various devices.

After initially testing it out on the beta, WhatsApp now brings the Passkey experience to users on the iPhone. This means that after setting it up for the last time, users could use their biometrics to log in to their accounts.
