A new report by Adobe entitled 2015 Digital Index Online Shopping Prediction reveals that mobile shopping will be reaching an important milestone over the upcoming holiday frenzy.

According to the report, 51 percent or majority of online shopping visits over the holidays in the United States will be done on mobile devices, which would be the first time ever.

Adobe, which acquired the data from the Adobe Marketing Cloud, also said that almost one-third of all sales over the holiday season will happen through mobile devices, further underscoring the rising significance of mobile devices in the purchasing patterns of consumers. Previously, the trend has been that customers will use their mobile devices to look around for products that they would want to buy, and then transfer to other devices to formalize the purchase.

Another change that Adobe pointed out is what channels the marketers are favoring when reaching out to shoppers for the holidays. Adobe believes that the retailers will be using display advertisements for 23 percent of its offerings and social media for 14 percent, with consumers three times more likely to discover deals through display advertisements compared to search advertisements.

In addition, Adobe expects that far more sale transactions will happen through iOS-powered devices compared to Android-based gadgets, which is a trend that is being seen yearly. The cause of such a trend has not been exactly pinpointed, though possible reasons is that iOS device owners are on average have more spending power compared to Android gadget users or that shopping on iOS devices is easier to do compared to Android gadgets.

Adobe expects total sales to reach $83 billion, which is an 11 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The report also expects 76 percent of sales to be devoted to only 1 percent of product SKUs, primarily electronics and gift cards.

The report also stated that the most discussed gift ideas for the holiday shopping season include the Star Wars BB-8 toy, the Apple Watch, the Sony PlayStation 4, and the Minecraft and Halo 5 video games.
