A new report claims that Apple will launch its rumored iPad Pro in the fall. The 12.9-inch tablet will reportedly be released alongside the iPad Air 2 and updated iPad mini with Retina display.

Apple has been playing catch-up with Samsung in terms using larger displays in its smartphones. The company is expected to offer a larger 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 to compete with handsets like the 5.1-inch Galaxy S5 and 5.7-inch Galaxy Note 3 phablet. Samsung was the first tablet maker to embrace the idea of releasing a slate with a 12+-inch display when it launched its 12.2-inch Galaxy Tab Pro and Galaxy Note Pro earlier this year.

There have been rumors for quite some time that Apple has been planning on launching an iPad with a display larger than the 9.7-inch it currently uses in the iPad Air. Many reports claim that Apple wants to make its tablet and Mac lineup more uniformly named and plans on officially naming the larger iPad, the iPad Pro.

It was reported back in March that Apple had reportedly put the 12.9-inch iPad Pro on pause because the large-size tablet projects faced difficulties due to lack of support from developers. Now a new report claims that Apple is planning on introducing the 12.9-inch iPad Pro sometime this fall.

The Economic Daily News is reporting that Apple will introduce three new iPad models in the fall and one of those will be the rumored 12.9-inch iPad Pro. The jumbo-sized tablet will supposedly launch alongside the Touch ID-equipped iPad Air 2 and iPad mini with Retina display. Apple will reportedly market the larger iPad to the enterprise and education market and anyone that thinks the 9.7-inch iPad Air's display feels a little too small.

In recent builds of iOS 8 beta, developers have discovered a hidden split-screen multitasking feature that works in a similar way to a feature Samsung currently uses on its Android smartphones and tablets. The new feature would take advantage of both the 9.7-inch iPad Air and 12.9-inch iPad Pro's displays and could possibly be an exclusive feature Apple uses to tempt current iPad owners.

This should be filed in the rumor category for now and we'll keep you posted on any new iPad Pro news.
