Move over, male superheroes like Green Arrow, The Flash and Daredevil, because women are just as tough when it comes to taking on baddies in live-action series.

Of course, we are counting down the hours until Marvel's Jessica Jones makes its debut on Netflix, but there are plenty of other titles to stream across all the popular streaming services to help you kill the time or start streaming after your binge-watching session.

Throwing stereotypes out the window, these women are smart, sexy, fearless and fully capable of throwing punches, doing stunts and chasing after villains in order to save the world.

With that being said, there is no doubt that these series will be action-packed. Here's the best action TV series starring females in lead roles to stream on Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Instant Video.

Netflix

Jessica Jones (2015-)

Marvel's Jessica Jones debuts on Netflix on Nov. 20, and we couldn't be more excited to have a female superhero star in her own series. This Netflix original follows the story of a superheroine that fights hard and drinks even harder. She tries to leave her crime-fighting days behind her, but becomes a private investigator, only to be sucked back in to stop a killer who has the ability to control the minds of his victims to carry out his evil deeds. We find that Jones actually has a past with this baddie as she attempts to stop him. Get ready for lots of action in this dark and moody series.

Alias (2001-2006)

Jennifer Garner plays Sydney Bristow, a spy that was recruited right out of college by the CIA. This double agent learns fast how hard it can be to manage a double life, and she tires to keep her career from her family and friends. She takes on multiple aliases to carry out her missions, so there are plenty of cool wigs and even more impressive backflips and other stunts. Along with beating up the bad guys, she also searches for artifacts, making this series have some science fiction elements throw into it.

Olivia Pope (Washington), the former communications director of the White House, starts her own crisis management firm. While there is not as much action as some of the other series on the list, this drama is worth binge-watching for Washington's strong female character alone.

Xena is the oldest series on this list, but one of the best when it comes to strong female action stars. The series follows the adventures of the strong and sexy Warrior Princess, who is on a mission to redeem herself from her dark past. She has a female sidekick, Gabrielle, and together, these ladies take on evil monsters that stand in their way.

Sci-fi fans are going to love this series, especially since it's executive produced by Steven Speilberg. Halle Berry plays Molly Woods, an astronaut who becomes pregnant in a mysterious way while she is on a 13-month-long space mission by herself. While this technically is a drama/thriller, Extant features one of the strongest female leads to grace the small screen.

Fringe (2008-)

Perfect for fans of: The X-Files, Sleepy Hollow, The Strain

Fringe follows the story of FBI agent Olivia Dunham (Torv) who teams up with an institutionalized scientist and his son to find answers to investigations that feature unusual events. While this series is classified under the sci-fi and mystery genre, there is lots of action that goes down as Agent Dunham encounters strange phenomena head-on.

Covert Affairs (2010-2014)

Covert Affairs is the action-packed series that tells the story of a young CIA trainee named Annie Walker that is sent to work as a field agent in the Domestic Protection Division. She teams up with a blind tech operative named August "Auggie" Anderson, who becomes her right hand, and later takes on a new cover that makes her do some shady things.

True Blood (2008-2014)

If you haven't seen this series already, you must sink your teeth into some True Blood. It follows the story of Sookie Stackhouse, a waitress who possesses supernatural abilities who falls in love with a vampire during a time in America when they are fighting for their civil rights. Sookie may seem like a sweet southern bell, but she can be as fierce as the monsters that are lurking in her town.
