Sony announced that PlayStation 4 jumped the 30 million sold units mark, two years after its launch in late 2013.

Between its launch and Nov. 22, 2015, gamers bought more than 30.2 million PS4 consoles developed by Sony. The company declared that it plans to ship an additional 17.5 million PlayStation 4 units until March 2016, when the fiscal year 2015 ends.

Microsoft, the main rival for the Japanese console manufacturer, gave no official estimate of the number of Xbox One units it sold, but in November it affirmed that it sold 10 million units to vendors. Marketing analysis from NPD indicates that PS4 consistently outsold the Xbox One in North America. However, Xbox snatched the first place from PS4 in October for the first time since April, and voices familiar with the matter claimed that it had to do with the release of Halo 5: Guardians.

"Gamers across the globe have continued to choose PS4 as the best place to play since launch two years ago," President and Global CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., Andrew House, declared.

Home country rival Nintendo reported that Wii U sold a number of 10.73 million units globally by Sept. 30, 2015. Nintendo's console was launched one year prior to the PS4 and Xbox One, in Nov. 2012.

"Thanks to the support of our partners, PS4 continues to be the premier platform for games and interactive entertainment innovation," House underlined. He further pointed out that his company fully commits to bringing "engaging games" as well as "entertainment services" to a global audience.

Currently available in 124 countries and regions across the world, the PS4 has some famous titles that keep drawing gamers to it.

"PS4 continues to demonstrate the fastest and strongest growth in PlayStation hardware history," the company proudly added.

For the upcoming holiday season, PS4 aims to broaden its portfolio of games with exciting titles such as Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Ryu Ga GotokuKIWAMI, Gravity Rush Remastered, Bloodborne The Old Hunters Edition, and Dragon Quest Builders.

PS4 also gives independent developers a chance to showcase their work, as seen in titles such as Super Time Force Ultra and GALAK-Z.

Even if there are some who like to claim that the PC is the "Master Race" of the gaming industry, the numbers show that consoles are here to stay and to prove them differently.
