As San Diego Comic-Con 2014 gets underway, Marvel has decided to offer its fans a special gift. You may already know about Marvel Unlimited, the company's online archive of more than 15,000 comic books. A subscription to Unlimited usually runs you $9.99 a month, or $69 for a whole year.

Think of it like Netflix or Spotify for comic books. You're not buying comic books, you're subscribing to a service that gives you full, a la carte access to its entire catalog.

In honor of Comic-Con, Marvel is offering fans a full month of Marvel Unlimited for just 99¢. That's full access to every comic book in Unlimited's archive for less than a dollar. To take advantage of the deal, just enter promo code "SDCC14" at checkout. You couldn't possibly read through all 15,000+ in a single month, of course, but if you have some free time on your hands, this is a phenomenal deal.

A Marvel Unlimited subscription entitles you to download up to 12 comics at a time for offline viewing, though when you're online you can delete your current 12 and immediately download a dozen more. Unlimited comics are compatible with PC, Mac, iOS, and Android devices. (The free Marvel Unlimited app is required for iOS and Android.)

Titles available on Marvel Unlimited include both standard comic books and Marvel Infinite Comics, exclusive titles designed specifically to read on electronic devices. Infinite Comics employ audio and video content, as well as animation-style visual effects. Potential subscribers should be aware that there are no current, brand-new titles available to read via Marvel Unlimited. The most recent comics you'll find are from about six months ago.

Still, that includes dozens of celebrated, major events like "Age of Ultron" "Avengers vs. X-Men," "Spider-Island," "Civil War," "Secret Invasion," "Shadowland," "Marvel NOW" and many more. Subscribers also get access to thousands of comic books starring Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four and countless others. You'll find comics from last year, as well as classics that go back to 75 years ago.

If you're interested in taking advantage of this 99¢ deal, you'll need to act fast. The special pricing will only be available for one week, starting immediately. That means the sale will end on or around Wednesday, July 30, 2014, when a month's subscription will revert to the standard $9.99.

It's a great introduction to fans of Marvel's big-screen movies, or the perfect way to catch up if you've fallen off the monthly bandwagon.
