The aluminum-equipped Samsung Galaxy Alpha is expected to debut just before the iPhone 6. Images of the smartphone have leaked and show the handset side-by-side with the Galaxy S5.

When it comes to building a smartphone that offers specific features to appeal to a certain customer, nobody does it better than Samsung. For example, if you're the type of person who likes the idea of converging a smartphone with a small tablet, Samsung has you covered with its Galaxy Note phablets. If you love the display size of the Galaxy Note series but don't need the S Pen, high-end specs and price, the 6.3-inch Galaxy Mega is for you, and currently free on contract with Sprint. If you want a flagship Android smartphone with cutting-edge features, its latest Galaxy S5 is designed for your needs.

Now, Samsung is planning to launch the Galaxy Alpha, a smartphone targeted at users who want some of the flagship Galaxy S5 features in a smaller device built out of high-end materials like aluminum. Unlike the rumored Galaxy F / Galaxy S5 Prime, which is said to use a Quad HD display and will be a premium version of the Galaxy S5, the Galaxy Alpha will reportedly be marketed as another watered-down version of the flagship smartphone, like the Galaxy S5 Active and Galaxy S5 Mini.

SamMobile posted images and some new details about the Samsung Galaxy Alpha. The smartphone is pictured alongside the Galaxy S5. The Galaxy Alpha is reportedly using a 4.7-inch 1280 x 720 display and includes the same fingerprint scanner found on the Galaxy S5 but not its heart rate sensor. It reportedly will ship with 32GB of internal storage but will lack any type of memory expansion slot.

The Galaxy Alpha's main highlight and reason for existing is found in the aluminum frame Samsung has chosen to use to hold the smartphone. The design is closer to Nokia's Lumia 925, which uses an aluminum frame and polycarbonate body than it is to Apple's iPhone 5s' full-metal jacket. The images also show its Galaxy S5-inspired faux-leather rear case.

As always, it's best to take reports of unannounced devices with a huge grain of salt. We'll keep you posted on any new Samsung Galaxy Alpha information as it becomes available.
