Although it's been several years since rumors started surfacing that Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit director Peter Jackson would direct an episode of BBC series Doctor Who, whisperings of such an occurrence continue to haunt the Internet.

Adding fuel to the fire of those rumors, though, is Jackson himself, who posted a video over the weekend teasing that he has already agreed to take on an adventure with the Doctor.

In the video, Jackson busily polishes his Oscars while his daughter sits nearby on a laptop, going through her father's email. She mentions that he has one from Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat, who, obviously, wants Jackson to direct an episode of the show. Jackson blows the email off, stating that Moffat's emails often don't make sense, and keeps on polishing.

That's when 12th Doctor Peter Capaldi shows up at Jackson's door, with a document that Jackson must sign immediately from Moffat: a contract from the BBC to work on the series. A Dalek shows up and runs Capaldi out of the room, leaving Jackson holding the contract.

This was an interesting weekend...

Although that document never gets a signature from Jackson, it's likely that this video teases that there's a real, signed contract somewhere and that the wheels are already in motion that will result in the director taking on an episode of Doctor Who sometime next year.

Jackson is always a very busy director, but has previously stated that he'd love to work on Doctor Who, particularly if he gets a Dalek (which Jackson teases in his video).

"He's serious about it," said Moffat at an event in Edinburgh to Radio Times. "I was at The Hobbit premiere and he just wants a Dalek. "That's what he wants. We give him a Dalek and then he'll direct an episode."

Moffat also suggested that such an episode would get filmed in New Zealand, which is also hinted at in Jackson's video. It's likely that the stars of the universe have finally aligned to make this happen, so expect an official announcement from the BBC soon.

Meanwhile, the Doctor finds himself searching for a new companion after the departure of Clara, as portrayed by Jenna-Louise Coleman, who recently left the series. The time traveler also has a Christmas special coming up, which features the return of fan favorite character River Song (Alex Kingston).

Doctor Who airs at 9 p.m. EST Saturdays on BBC America.
