AT&T began offering the Samsung Galaxy Mega in August 2013 and it looks the carrier is about to launch the Galaxy Mega 2. The phablet just passed through the FCC for certification on AT&T's network.

Samsung single-handedly made the idea of carrying a small-size tablet converged with a smartphone a must-have device for millions of users. The company introduced the original Galaxy Note at IFA in Berlin in 2011. The handset received a lukewarm reception from the tech community. Many people claimed that the Galaxy Note's 5.3-inch display was way too big for a smartphone and that consumers would not want to carry a device that large or hold it up to their face to make phone calls.

When Samsung began selling the Galaxy Note, it proved all of its skeptics wrong. The device was an instant hit with consumers. The company has sold more than 50 million Galaxy Note phablets and is widely expected to unveil its next-generation and high-end Galaxy Note 4 at IFA in Berlin in September.

Samsung also has what can be considered an entry-level phablet in the form of the Galaxy Mega. The Mega series was created to give consumers all of the benefits of having a Galaxy Note phablet-sized screen without costly high-end expensive internals and S Pen stylus. AT&T and Sprint currently offer the Galaxy Mega and we reported back in March that both carriers would get the Galaxy Mega 2.

Phone Arena discovered that the Galaxy Mega 2 with model number SM-G750A has just passed through the FCC for certification. The 'A' in the model number signifies this is AT&T's variant and the listing also reveals the dimensions of the phablet.  Its dimensions are listed as 164.4 x 85 mm, which is smaller than the 6.3-inch Galaxy Mega and backs up previous reports that the Mega 2 would feature a 5.9-inch 720p display.

In addition to its 5.9-inch 720p display, the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 is believed to use a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor and offer 2 GB of RAM. Its camera capabilities will reportedly consist of a 12-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front-facing shooter.

While no specific launch date has been revealed, considering the original Galaxy Mega went on sale in August 2013, we should expect to hear something official soon.
