Details regarding the metal-bodied Samsung Galaxy Alpha have been leaking at a steady rate. The smartphone's 4.8-inch 720p display has been confirmed by Samsung's own developer console.

Over the next few months, smartphone fans are going to have a tougher time deciding which handset is worthy of their dollars and, in many cases, new two-year contracts. Apple, Motorola, Google and Samsung will all launch their latest and greatest smartphones.

Apple is widely expected to launch its next-generation iPhone 6 in September. The company will launch its largest iPhones to date, with both devices packing a 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch Retina display. The handsets will also feature faster and more energy efficient Apple A8 processors, Touch ID fingerprint scanner, upgraded cameras and iOS 8 out of the box. Both iPhone 6 variants will feature a redesigned and very thin aluminum case with rounded edges.

Motorola is planning to give its smartphone lineup a refresh in the near future. Motorola and Verizon are reportedly close to making the Droid Maxx 2 and Droid Mini 2 official. We recently reported on a leaked image that showed what is believed to be the rear case of the Verizon Droid Maxx 2 along with information that the new handsets would be powered by quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processors.

An image of what is reportedly the Moto X's successor, the Moto X+1, recently leaked and showed off the handset's larger 5.2-inch 1920 x 1080 full HD display. The smartphone appears to follow a new trend that will also be seen on an upcoming Samsung Galaxy smartphone. The handset will supposedly use an aluminum frame to make it feel more premium and durable. We just reported that Motorola and Google are partnering on the Nexus 6, which has been codenamed "Shamu" and will boast a 5.9-inch display with a targeted November release.

Last but certainly not least, Samsung will introduce its next-generation Galaxy Note 4 phablet at IFA in Berlin in September. Some of the most recent reports claim the Note 4 will feature a retina scanner that will be used to unlock the device in addition to a UV sensor that will be able to alert users and recommend precautions based on the UV index.

As previously mentioned, Samsung will use an aluminum frame like Motorola on its upcoming Galaxy Alpha. Images of the smartphone recently leaked showing how it compared with the flagship Galaxy S5. There was debate on what type of display Samsung was planning on using with the Galaxy Alpha. Some reports claimed it would ship with a QHD 2560 x 1440 resolution display, while others said it would be a 720p screen.

SamMobile now confirms that the Galaxy Alpha will use a 4.8-inch 720p display that is very similar to the rather old Galaxy S3. The information comes from Samsung's own developer portal. While the Samsung Galaxy Alpha is not a flagship smartphone, by any means, it appears Samsung is going to target users who want a device that's easy to operate with one hand and one that also has a high-end, premium feel to it. The handset is expected to be announced at some point in August.

We'll keep you updated on any new information regarding all of these smartphones as more information becomes available.
