After a night of drinking, some people decide that they can't wait or can't be bothered to walk to a bathroom, instead deciding to maybe use the wall of the pub as their own personal urinal.

Soon, however, people who decide to urinate in public may get a nasty surprise. A special wall coating is being designed to repel liquid, so instead of hitting a wall and simply running down it, urine will instead bounce off the wall and soak the culprit in their own pee. The Ultra-Ever Dry paint creates a near-invisible barrier of air over surfaces, what's called a superhydrophobic coating that repels liquids.

The wall paint is referred to as anti-pee, and it is being deployed at two popular drinking locations in east London.

"If the prospect of a fine doesn't put them off from weeing in the street, maybe the risk of getting covered in urine will," says Feryal Dermici, cabinet member for neighborhoods at Hackney Council.

Not only will urine end up all over the offender's shoes, but the coating also ensures that urine won't end up soaking into the wall, reducing stains and smells.

Anti-pee itself is being made by UltraTech, a U.S. company. The council in East London says that it thinks it's the first authority in the U.K. to use the repellent, and has paid 1,000 pounds, about $1,490, to treat the two locations. It will not, however, reveal where the new paint will be used.
