Even players in World of Warcraft get lonely sometimes: that's why the game offers pets. However, now, those players can not only get some much-needed in-game companionship that a pet has to offer, but they can also have their adoption fee go to a good cause.

World of Warcraft recently announced that proceeds from the adoption of the new Brightpaw pet will go toward the Make-A-Wish Foundation. For just $10, players can adopt an adorable purple cat-like creature and help out a kid in need.

"Give something magical to children in need by adopting Brightpaw today!" writes Blizzard on the official World of Warcraft website. "From now until Dec. 31, 2015, 100 percent of Brightpaw's adoption fee will go to support Make-A-Wish, helping them grant the wishes of children throughout the world with life-threatening medical conditions."

Even better, Blizzard is donating 100 percent of Brightpaw's adoption fees to the Foundation from now until the end of the year.

In an announcement video, World of Warcraft introduced Brightpaw to the world:

Described as a creature with "an insatiable thirst for magic," Brightpaw is a typical feline: it likes knocking over things, playing with other things and hiding in boxes. It also likes to ride on the World of Warcraft version of a Roomba. "Brightpaw will stay by your side ... more or less."

However, when it comes to battle, Brightpaw can help out with its special attacks, including unique magical attacks, biting attacks, prowling attacks and using the power of the cute face to increase players' chances to dodge attacks.

Once adopted, Brightpaw becomes available for all characters on an account. To access her, open up the Pet Journal. World of Warcraft players can also gift Brightpaw to friends.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation arranges experiences for children with life-threatening illnesses. In 2013, the organization granted the wish of a boy who wanted to become a superhero for a day: that resulted in San Francisco getting transformed into Gotham City for 24 hours to serve as a stomping ground for Batkid, whose videos and story went viral. Batkid became so popular that he even earned a special thank you for saving Gotham from President Barack Obama.

"We knew a superhero wish would be really cool, but it's kind of surreal to see what's happened," said Patricia Wilson, executive director of the Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area chapter to the San Jose Mercury News. "Receiving a wish is a life-transforming experience for any child, and it's apparently the case for everyone who wants to be involved in this wish."
