OK, I'm not entirely sure this thing isn't some high-tech snake oil, but I'm intrigued. Here's the basic Levl pitch: a device that measures your breath to see if you're burning fat. I know, right?

Apparently, measuring the acetone levels in your breath is an accurate method to see how much fat you're burning off. I got a level four. They tell me that's good. I'm sure they say that to all the boys.

The way it works is this: you hold your breath for five seconds and breath into a vile for another five, You place the vial in a box, close the top, and it goes to work, spinning a little light on the front to let you know that it's not slacking. Naturally there's a smartphone version of all of this, too.

According to the company, acetone levels in breath only shift gradually, so you don't need to run straight home after the gym — it'll tell you how you've been doing of late. The idea is to make slight changes to your activities until you find a routine in which you're burning fat instead of muscle.

And get to a four, which I'm told is good. Or maybe that's just me.
