With CES 2016 now over, we're already looking forward to the Mobile World Congress 2016, and LG is game for it.

The MWC 2016 is now just a few short weeks away and LG is already eager to play in Barcelona, Spain, making us think that we'll also be able to play – with its LG G5, that is.

Along with a huge crowd, the show is expected to attract some of the biggest names in the industry, and we should see plenty of new smartphones, tablets and gadgets.

LG is among the OEMs looking forward to take advantage of the MWC to unveil their latest and greatest, and we're expecting a "playful" LG G5 to make its debut next month. The MWC 2016 takes place on Feb. 22 - 25 and LG can't wait.

The company officially teased an announcement for Feb. 21, which is one day before the show officially kicks off. It's a common practice for companies to make announcements days prior to a big show, as they all aim to grab the spotlight first.

LG took to its Facebook account to boost excitement ahead of the MWC, posting a "save the date" teaser with the tagline "Play begins." The teaser further notes that LG will make its announcement at 2 p.m. on Feb. 21 in Barcelona (see image above).

The next-generation LG G5 was already tipped to launch at the MWC 2016 and now it's basically official. LG confirmed to CNET that it will indeed launch its next flagship smartphone at the show, which means we'll get the official scoop on the LG G5 as early as next month.

The LG G5 is expected to arrive as a real powerhouse with top specs in tow, including iris recognition, a feature expected to become the new must-have following the fingerprint scanner trend.

Some other key specs of the LG G5 also came to light in late December 2015, hinting at great things to come.

Highlights include a new "Magic Slot" for "hardware expansion," a QHD resolution (2,560 x 1,440 pixels) spread over a 5.3-inch display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with 3 GB of RAM, a 16-megapixel main camera with laser autofocus and RGB sensor, and a 2,880 mAh battery. The LG G5 is also rumored to sport a ticker display feature similar to that of the popular LG V10.

The specs remain in the rumor state at this point, but the MWC 2016 is just around the corner. We'll keep you up to date with the latest news, so stay tuned.
