This year, Android fans will see the release of the next flagship from Samsung, the Galaxy S7, and today we see how the AT&T variant of the device fared in benchmark tests.

All major carriers are expected to offer the Galaxy S7 once it launches, and big names such as Verizon, U.S. Cellular and Sprint already revealed the model numbers for their Galaxy S7s.

The Galaxy S7 that AT&T will offer recently appeared in Primatelab's visor. A benchmark testing in Geekbench version 3.3.2 showcased the potential of the upcoming handset.

Let's take a look at the performances.

The screenshot shows that the benchmarked Galaxy S7 has the model number "SM-G930A", meaning that we are looking at the AT&T's variant.

As expected, the smartphone comes with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow preinstalled.

The revision 2 version of Snapdragon 820's chipset brings processing power to the latest Samsung flagship. There is also 3 GB of RAM to back the internal processes.

As it can be plainly read, the handset scored 2,282 points in single-core tests, while it reached 4,979 points in multi-core tests. The results come as a bit of a surprise as previous tests, which were conducted by Qualcomm's own reference device, showed higher numbers.

The benchmarking that happened in December 2015 during the official SD820 event placed the Qualcomm processor at 2,320 in single core tests and 5,369 in multi-thread tasks.

It should be noted that the South Korean electronics company still has time to improve its latest flagship device before launching it. So far, speculations loom saying the Galaxy S7 will debut at the Mobile World Congress 2016. The mobile tech event takes place in Barcelona and starts on Feb. 22.

When it comes to the actual design choice for the upcoming flagship, there is not much official information. Previously leaked schematics concerning the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge point out that the OEM did make some design and display size modifications in comparison to the existing Galaxy S6 and S6 edge.

Based on the report, the Galaxy S7 edge will feature a 5.5-inch dual-curved edge display, while the Galaxy S7 will get a 5.2-inch screen. It might not be much of a difference, but it beats the 5.1-inch screens currently present on the S6 and S6 edge.
