If there was ever a time to become a new Pokémon fan, it is now, with the company celebrating the franchise’s 20th anniversary all year. For example, the legendary Pokémon Mew, #151 in the National Pokédex, is now available at GameStop for a limited time.

The original Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green released for the Nintendo Game Boy in Japan back in February 1996. The company’s chosen to celebrate this fact all year with a variety of releases, including but not limited to, special Nintendo 2DS bundles, Nintendo eShop releases of the original Game Boy games and more. That includes a whole slew of mythical Pokémon — which can be difficult to come by — being released via event distribution.

Mythical Pokémon are, of course, the pocket monsters that are extremely rare in the games, with often a single instance per game and sometimes none at all. Traditionally speaking, every single Pokémon set to release via event this coming year isn’t found in any game beyond circumstances put in motion thanks to these kind of distributions. Sometimes, there’s a distribution where they give out an item that unlocks an area where a specific Pokémon is, but more often, it's just the critter by itself.

The first of these is Mew, the legendary Pokémon from the original set of games. Interested parties can head to their local GameStop — seemingly the only retailer participating in the franchise’s anniversary event distributions — between now and Feb. 24 to receive a card with a code to redeem within the game to receive Mew. The codes, which provide a level 100 (the highest level in the game) Mew for the Pokémon X, Pokémon Y, Pokémon Omega Ruby or Pokémon Alpha Sapphire games, are valid until May 31, 2016.

Next month: a level 100 Celebi from the Nintendo Network!
