22cans and controversial developer Peter Molyneux are back again, and they’re returning to the Godus well with Godus Wars.

Godus Wars is a real-time strategy game that mixes in the mechanics of Godus — where players control deities. There’s a reason they share a name, and it certainly looks like more than a few assets have been reused. It’s launched in Early Access, meaning that there will ideally be a full release later.

The best thing about Godus Wars might be that folks who had previously purchased Godus get the new game for free. On the other hand, folks can pick up Godus Wars for $14.99, and they’ll get Godus to boot. Basically, there’s no way to not get Godus if you’re interested in Godus Wars.

One interesting aspect to Godus Wars is that it apparently includes Bryan Henderson, the young man promised godhood prior to the launch of Godus, as an enemy deity. It also comes with 70 different levels, four deities for players to pick and two kinds of units. In theory, there will eventually be more, but that’s what’s available in the Early Access version.

Reaction to the game’s announcement has been mixed. Molyneux’s known for overpromising, and he was just in the news when someone hacked his Twitter and told everyone he was retiring — oh, and pulling Godus from sale.

Molyneux also spoke with Eurogamer for an interview after initially swearing off interviews last year.

"I had the chance to stand back and I tried to get to the core of what that journalist was saying,” Molyneux told Eurogamer, “which was, you're over promising and under delivering. What's the solution? Here, a year later, is the solution."

Godus Wars is currently available in Early Access on Steam.
