Nothing like having another person hunt you down, not a computer opponent, to liven up a game.

The upcoming zombie apocalypse title Dying Light will feature an online mode where four players control survivors that have a variety of goals to achieve while they are being attacked by a fifth player, who is controlling the Night Hunter, an unkillable super zombie.

The players will have tools to help them against the Night Hunter. One gadget will track the location of the Night Hunter. Another is a UV light that can stun him. These tools will allow the players to continue fulfilling their tasks, such as setting off explosions to attract more humans or destroy zombie nests filled with zombies that are located in the area.

The details of this multiplayer mode was revealed in demos of Dying Light at the Gamescom convention being held in Cologne, Germany this week.

Dying Light has gained some attention for a few features it is adding to the first-person shooter set during a zombie apocalypse. Players can use parkour to swiftly jump over obstacles and climb various structures. There is also a day and night cycle to the game, where surviving against the zombie hordes is more difficult after the sun sets. The game's developers, Techland, promises more interesting features with roleplaying elements.

Online multiplayer modes where some players control the heroes and others the monsters has grown in popularity over the years. Left 4 Dead 1 and 2, zombie shooters made by Turtle Rock, was one of the first popular series with such a multiplaer mode. Recently, Turtle Rock has been gaining attention for its upcoming shooter Evolve, where the one player attacks the others with a ginormous alien. Two upcoming action roleplaying games, Microsoft's Fable Legends and BioWare's Shadow Realms, also feature modes where one player is the villain trying to defeat the heroes.

Dying Light is being developed by Techland, makers of the Dead Island zombie games, and published by WB Games. Dying Light will be released in February 2015 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PC.
