Good news for owners of the Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones from Samsung - the OEM has started pushing out the much-awaited Android 6.0 Marshmallow software update for the smartphones.

Samsung is anticipated to debut its next-gen Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones on Feb. 21, and prior to their launch, it has updated the previous-gen smartphones to the latest Android OS.

The company confirmed the software update's arrival on Monday, revealing that Android 6.0 Marshmallow would be pushed out to Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 smartphones worldwide.

"Samsung Electronics plan to provide the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update starting with Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge on February 15, 2016, and other GALAXY devices will soon follow.

For upgradable models, Samsung will make separate announcements on details of OS updates schedule for each market according to market situation and carriers' requirements," says Samsung.

Since the Android 6.0 Marshmallow release is hinged on the market situation and requirements from carriers, the roll out timing may vary from country to country. As a result, some users of the Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge may have to wait longer than others.

Earlier in January, we reported that the beta Android 6.0 Marshmallow updated was ready for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones.

The beta update was available to a select few users in the UK and even though it did not enlist users in the U.S., its arrival suggested that Samsung would soon be pushing out the final Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to users in the coming weeks.

The beta had offered a glimpse into what users of the flagship Samsung smartphones could potentially expect, including a revamped power menu and a Pro Mode to the camera app.

The onset of Android 6.0 Marshmallow for Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 marks not only the arrival of interface tweaks, but also performance enhancements.

The software update brings both new, as well as improved edge screen features. This makes the UI smoother and easier to use.

Users of the smartphones also benefit from Google Now on Tap, Doze - which saves the device's battery, simplified permits for apps and much more.

One can increase the edge screen's panel width to 550 pixels - an increase from 260 pixels - on the Galaxy S6 Edge. This will enable users of the handset to view more content. The People edge panel will now show the contact's name below their image and one can customize the 9 quick access panels.

The Apps edge feature will let one add 10 apps. One will also be able to add folders and Tasks edge gets updated with Quick tools. These tools include a compass, ruler and a flashlight which can be customized.

Have you received the Android 6.0 Marshmallow software update on your Galaxy S6 Edge or Galaxy S6 yet?
