Smite, the free-to-play MOBA from developer Hi-Rez, finally lands on the PlayStation 4 in a closed alpha that will test the porting of the game into Sony's ecosystem.

The title drew heavy appraisal for its Xbox One and PC installments, and the game creators are ready to ask select PS4 owners if they are "ready to play god?"

The closed alpha debuted on Friday, and a closed beta is set for the beginning of March.

Smite appeared for the first time in 2014 on PC. One year later, the game was ported to Xbox One. In total, the game captured the attention and interest of 14 million players, according to its developer.

In Smite, PS4 owners get to toy around with no less than five free gods, namely Thor, Ymir, Guan Yu, Ra and Neith. However, due to the game's free rotation system of selectable gods, more choices will be available. To unlock more gods, you can earn gameplay points or make an in-game purchase. Yes, Smite allows you to buy gods with cold, hard cash.

A few exclusive skins come with the PlayStation version of the game. For example, players will be able to try on the "Whe World's Collide" skin for the Scandinavian god Odin. Gamers who choose to connect their PS4 and Hi-Rez accounts get Odin's skin in a second.

It is premature to say whether or not Smite requires a PS Plus membership. On the other hand, if you have a PlayStation Plus account, you get the "KuKu4" skin for Kulkulkan.

Ymir's "C4codemon" comes bundled with the Smite Founder's Pack, and is the third skin on the list.

By choosing the Founder's Pack, you gain access to all characters (present and upcoming), 400 Gems, the "Soldier of Fortune" skin for Ares and an invite to the beta. All this comes for only $30.

A notable, disheartening mention must be made: no cross-platform play between PC and PS4 will be available. The game's website offers a thorough FAQ section, should you be curious about Smite's details.
