LG just launched its 2016 flagship smartphone, the LG G5, at Mobile World Congress. Best Buy, on the other hand, has announced it will begin taking preorders for the modular smartphone on March 18.

Many smartphone fans are wondering when the LG G5 will be available for preorder, as LG only announced that the LG G5 would be released in April. While carriers have confirmed they will all offer the unit, Best Buy has become the first retailer to announce a preorder date.

Best Buy will begin accepting preorders for the LG G5 in less than a month, although, the post on the retailer's website does not specify a price nor a release date.

LG's next-gen smartphone has a brand new all-metal modular design. This allows users to swap out its battery and add hardware modules by simply sliding the bottom part of the smartphone's case off.

The LG G5 features a 5.3-inch 2,560 x 1,440 Quad HD display with a density of 554 pixels per inch. It includes 32 GB of internal storage, and microSD expansion slot that can support up to 2 TB.

The LG G5 uses an all-new dual-rear camera, which consists of a 16-megapixel and 8-megapixel setup. In addition to the two snappers that allow for wide and standard angle lens to get more in the shot, it also has optical image stabilization, laser autofocus, and 8-megapixel front-facing shooter for video chat and selfies.

It runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and its modular metal case allows users to easily swap out its 2,800 mAh battery and add even add extra hardware modules. A digital camera module and Hi-Fi audio player module will be offered as well.

LG has virtually matched Samsung's Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge in the specs department, using Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 820 processor, 4 GB of RAM, Quad HD "Always-On Display," and microSD expansion slot.

Samsung and LG both used the 2016 MWC to unveil their latest flagship smartphones. Samsung launched the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, which is quite an improvement from last year's Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. The latest Samsung phones have two new features that its predecessors lacked - microSD expansion slot and a water/dust resistant case.

Both the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are now available for preorder from all four major U.S. carriers and will be released on March 11.

Now, that Best Buy has announced a March 18 preorder date for the LG G5, we should expect to hear something official from Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint on the subject. Once we do, we'll report back.
