Google announced that it is launching the Chrome Music Lab, which is a set of experiments that allow users of any age to explore music and find out how it works.

Google created the Chrome Music Lab as its celebration this year for the Music In Our Schools Month, with the experiments accessible to anybody who wishes to try them out through the Internet.

The website is completely free and can be accessed through any device, including desktop computers, laptops, tablets and smartphones.

There are 12 different experiments in the Chrome Music Lab, with the topics covering various aspects of music. Namely, the experiments are entitled Rhythm, Spectrogram, Chords, Sound waves, Arpeggios, Kandinsky, Melody Maker, Voice Spinner, Harmonics, Piano Roll, Oscillators and Strings.

Each tackles different musical topics really well, and are brought to life with colorful animations and lively sounds.

The experiments are the result of collaborations between coders and musicians and are created using the Web Audio API, which allows developers to create and manipulate sounds within a browser. The experiments also contain open source code that will allow developers to create their own versions.

The open source codes, stored in GitHub, are accessible through the icon in the top right corner of each experiment, which is also where the explanation of the experiments and the concepts that they use can be seen.

"Exploring music can help spark curiosity in all kinds of ways," Google says, adding that it hopes the experiments will serve as an inspiration to people and to make them more interested in music or in coding.

Every March, the National Association for Music Education celebrates Music In Our Schools Month, which hopes to engage educators, students and communities in the United States, and to promote the advantages of having high-quality music education programs in schools.

Music teachers participate in the annual month-long celebration in a variety of ways, including offering special performances and teaching lessons to students of all ages. Google created the Chrome Music Lab to be able to do the same thing, harnessing the Internet as a valuable teaching tool.
