MLB the Show 16 is slated to hit stores on March 29 for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.

If Xbox had its way, though, it would be competing against it with its very-own Major League Baseball-licensed title.

At least that was the sentiment from Xbox head Phil Spencer, who said he would "love" to see another pro-baseball game on Xbox in the future when a fan tweeted to him, "Some of us have been begging for a true MLB game for years and fallen on deaf ears."

"Hasn't fallen on deaf ears, I'd love a great 3P baseball game, we'd support it," Spencer tweeted, in a message spotted by GameSpot.

There has been an outcry to return an MLB-licensed title to Xbox since 2K Sports pulled its MLB 2K series in 2014 (see below), leaving the platform without any pro-baseball representation. Xbox gamers have had to settle for the RBI Baseball series instead, leaving a lot to be desired for their MLB digital field of dreams.

GameSpot even tracked down numerous pages on the Xbox Feedback website, calling for a new pro-baseball game on the platform, with one of the suggestions rather blatantly posting, "A New MLB Game," while imploring that it be up to the standard of MLB the Show — if not better. That post has received 350 votes in favor of that happening.

Meanwhile, those same gamers have had to watch the evolution of MLB the Show 16, which continues to boast its improvements — including Battle Royale and Conquest Modes — in what has become a highly-anticipated title for Sony. Also, PlayStation owners can choose between MLB the Show 16 and the same RBI Baseball 16 that Xbox gamers count as their only baseball choice.

Perhaps Spencer made it a point to answer the fan on his Twitter account in an attempt to roll out the red carpet and let video game developers know that Microsoft would be interested in returning an MLB-licensed title to its console. So, while Xbox gamers have to settle on RBI Baseball for now, it may not remain that way in the near future.
