As if the Ford Mustang couldn't get any more iconic.

The legendary model has been immortalized further, as it is one of the new tokens in the all-new edition of Monopoly Empire, as confirmed by the automaker itself Friday.

"Ford Mustang is Mr. Monopoly's new ride in the new edition of Monopoly Empire," a short press release on Ford's site reads. "2015's best-selling sports car in the U.S. has made thousands of appearances on the silver screen and in numerous songs, and now it's a playable piece in the iconic board game. Mustang fans can rev their engines and advance to go as they take laps around the board and build their empire of well-known brands, including Ford."

The twist to Monopoly Empire, as opposed to the original version of the iconic board game, is players eight years old and up are no longer plopping down play cash for properties like Boardwalk, Park Place and our favorite Baltic Avenue. Now, this generation of millennial kids are vying to build their own empires by acquiring famous brands that they can identify with, ranging from Nerf to Transformers, Levi's and Ford.

The Mustang is one of six playable tokens in the board game. Although a Mustang is as good of a sports performance coupe as any out on the road, we're not so sure that it's an upgrade from what Mr. Monopoly had as wheels back in the day. That silver ride was pretty smooth in its own right in the original board game, wasn't it?

While it speaks to the Mustang's continued longevity to be featured in a 2016 board game, another automaker could always boast that it was the first to the punch, and that would be Chevrolet. As Autoblog ever-so-shrewdly points out, the then-new Corvette Stingray was a featured token in the Hasbro board game first, and well before the Mustang revved up its horses to the updated Empire version currently in stores.

That being said, Ford might have the last laugh knowing its position on the Monopoly Empire board is farther down the property line than Chevy's was, spelling out that Hasbro equates Ford as the more valuable company.
