Game developer Infinity Ward may just push through with the space concept on the next iteration in the Call of Duty franchise. CoD fans can expect to see the game to feature a full sci-fi designed game setting.

The decision to launch the space-inspired CoD may not seem all too surprising, as the last two games in the franchise already displayed a futuristic feel. While Advanced Warfare was filled with jet-packs, Black Ops 3 featured robotic and wall-running adversaries.

"Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare envisions the powerful battlegrounds of the future, where both technology and tactics have evolved to usher in a new era of combat for the franchise," states the game's description on its official site. "Delivering a stunning performance, academy award winning actor Kevin Spacey stars as Jonathan Irons - one of the most powerful men in the world - shaping this chilling vision of the future of war."

Unlike the past two entries in the CoD franchise, which focused on the near-future setting, the upcoming Call of Duty will be primarily geared towards a sci-fi territory in the distant future.

While it is true that the upcoming CoD iteration is developed by the same company that created Ghost, the sci-fi inspired Call of Duty should not in any way be thought of as its direct sequel.

Last month, Activision confirmed a 2016 release of the next Call of Duty while game studio Infinity Ward will be the game's developer. The game's title was not revealed at that time. However, speculations said that the game will be called Call of Duty Ghosts 2.

It was also noted that the Ghost follow up will be one of the year's most anticipated game releases and that the game is scheduled to be officially released in November 2016.

Early details of the upcoming sci-fi inspired CoD are first seen online as revealed by forum user Shinobi.

"Very far future. Space combat. Full on sci-fi," stated Shinobi in a reply to the question "Are we talking Battlefield 2142 style?"

The next Call of Duty iteration is launching on the PC, PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. It will have a faceoff with EA's upcoming own shooter game Battlefield 5. Other sci-fi future releases to anticipate include Titanfall 2 which is slated to launch in early autumn and Mass Effect: Andromeda, a role-playing game sequel from Bioware which shall be available for game play in early 2017.
