In what is a disturbing trend in the video game industry, yet another title will get its release date pushed back this year: Mirror's Edge Catalyst.

EA DICE took to its blog today to announce that the game will no longer see a May release: instead, it will hit stores in June.

Design director Erik Odeldahl wrote that this delay comes after feedback from the game's closed beta. It seems that the developer wants to take a little extra time in fixing issues that players feel would make the game better.

One particular game feature that Odeldahl mentions is Social Play, which covers the game's online component.

"To support the Social Play features, we are using a brand new online technology," Odeldahl wrote. "We also want to make sure we have the opportunity and time to address player feedback from the Closed Beta. That is why we will give ourselves a bit more time to perfect the game, with a new release date for Mirror's Edge Catalyst of June 7th (NA) and June 9th (EU). We're confident that these extra two weeks will make sure the game is as amazing as possible for you the players."

Originally, Mirror's Edge Catalyst had a release date for February 2016. However, that date got moved to May.

"We will use these few extra months to make sure that when you step into the massive City of Glass and experience the rise of Faith, it's as entertaining, impressive, and memorable as it can be." DICE's Senior Producer Sara Jansson wrote on the game's blog last October.

Fortunately, this delay is only two weeks, but it does highlight a trend that plagues modern AAA video game titles: release dates never seem solid. Perhaps it's that modern games require longer development cycles than their creators anticipate, or perhaps it's that gamers increasingly want better-looking games, but both of those reasons seem inexcusable when smaller developers have no problem meeting their release date guidelines. Take The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, for instance: CD Projekt Red managed to release that title on time.

There's no word on if this delay is also due to player complaints about skills being locked behind XP upgrades, but that is one of the larger issues many gamers pointed out with the beta.

Mirror's Edge Catalyst is a reboot of the Mirror's Edge franchise that started with the first game in 2008. The parkour adventure game follows Faith, a runner, as she tries to take down evil corporations attempting to manipulate and control the people of the city of Glass.
