Lionsgate and Valve Corporation announced on April 25 that they will be joining forces, bringing movies to the digital distribution platform Steam.

This partnership will see the launch of more than 100 of Lionsgate's feature films for rent to Steam subscribers, including blockbusters like the Twilight, Divergent, Hunger Games and Saw franchises. More titles can be expected to be added to the Lionsgate's Steam catalog as the partnership expands all over the world.

According to Lionsgate, the deal reflects its commitment to monetizing content across various digital platforms by offering digital content, television programming and movies to an ever-growing online audience from all around the globe.

"We're delighted to partner with Steam, a leader in the digital entertainment and gaming space, as part of our commitment to remain at the cutting edge of innovation in delivering content," said Jim Packer, Worldwide Television and Digital Distribution president for Lionsgate.

With more than 125 million users, Steam is seen as not just as a unique and exciting opportunity, but also a disruptive one that will help Lionsgate expand its global distribution business.

Doug Lombardi, marketing head for Valve, also sees the partnership as beneficial since Lionsgate is quite the content supplier for Steam, bringing with it films that engage audiences and foster communities reflective of high-quality entertainment that will also influence Valve's own push to expand its content offering.

Lionsgate movies have been added to the Steam catalog starting April 23, beginning with Russkies, Deck the Halls, Two Family House, Return of the Living Dead 3, Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland, Leprechaun 4: Lost in Space, Leprechaun 2, Natural Born Pranksters, Leprechaun and Leprechaun 3. A Leprechaun film collection is also available, offering all four movies in the franchise.

The movies are available on all Steam-supported platforms, including SteamVR. Titles are categorized as 48-hour rentals that can be viewed any time within the next 30 days upon purchase and will only be available in online streaming format. Lionsgate movies will range in ratings and genre, ensuring that there's something for everyone in the studio's Steam catalog.
