Recent rumors around the next entry in Activision's blockbuster Call of Duty franchise have been circulating around the Web in recent weeks, with the current word on the street being that the series will be heading to space for a full-blown sci-fi entry.

That certainly matches up with what appears to be the name of a new Call of Duty game that one NeoGAF user recently saw appear on the PlayStation Store: Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

User JumPeRJumPzZ snapped an image of the listing on the PSN store ahead of an official reveal. It's hard to say 100 percent whether or not the image is legitimate, but it does look that way.

When combined with the fact that Activision has revealed its new Call of Duty entries ahead of E3 (E3 is two months away) for the last several years, it seems to make sense that a reveal would be coming soon. An upcoming reveal is also supported by what appears to be retailers receiving marketing for the upcoming game. Game journalist Jim Sterling recently tweeted out an image that showed what appears to be a marketing book from a video game retailer (possibly GameStop) that clearly lists "Call of Duty Reveal." Dates are also provided for when the marketing is set to go up, in this case, May 3.

That means a reveal is likely to come within the next week, and possibly very soon if details about the game begin to leak ahead of time. That's what happened with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare several years ago. The game was to make its debut on the cover of Game Informer magazine, but a trailer for it found its way online early, causing Game Informer and Activision to go ahead and spill the beans earlier than planned.

So, what does a full blown sci-fi Call of Duty look like? It's hard to say. The series has long departed from the historical roots that spawned the franchise, with more recent entries taking place in futures filled with nanomachines, mechs and more. A Call of Duty set in space would no doubt include even more far-out weaponry and spaceships, of course.

We'll likely be hearing more about the game soon. When we do, we'll be sure to give you all the details.
