If you're one of the more than 300 million Instagram users worldwide, don't be surprised to see a few changes to the photo sharing app the next time you log in.

Instagram appears to be taking steps to spruce up its website's classic design. Based on screenshots taken of the app's new look, it seems that developers are planning to shed Instagram's signature blue-and-orange-colored design and replace it with a simple black-and-white one.

The screenshots also revealed that the new interface will use more of the white space available and will feature several redesigned icons.

Some examples of the changes include Instagram's classic camera icon, which was tweaked to look more like a real camera instead of just a box with a circle inside it, and the app's notifications feed, which now resembles a heart rather than the old heart icon placed inside a dialog bubble.

While the redesign makes Instagram appear less unique compared to its current interface, it does help make the app look a lot more modern. The changes also only affect the overall design of the app, leaving all of its functionality virtually unchanged.

So far, there is no word yet on whether the redesign will be released more broadly. It is still undergoing testing through the help of a small percentage of Instagram's user base.

"We often test new experiences with a small percentage of the global community," a representative for Instagram said. "This is a design test only,"

News about the potential redesign of Instagram comes a month after the popular photo sharing app introduced support for 60-second video clips on its site. The company said that the number of people viewing videos on Instagram has increased by as much as 40 percent over the course of the past six months.

Instagram also revealed that it would switch to new algorithms that make use of the user's preference to determine the type of content that the app would display. However, the company had to backtrack on its announcement after the plan was met with backlash from many of the app's users.

Here's some word circulating on social media and elsewhere about Instagram's possible redesign:
