Everybody knows the basic premise of Nintendo's classic arcade title Donkey Kong: a gorilla has kidnapped Mario's beloved, and it's up to Mario to save her. To do this, he must climb ladders and leap over barrels in order to make his way to the top and confront the big, bad ape.

People of all ages have played Donkey Kong, and we've seen various adaptations of the game on the big screen before as a result. Most recently, Adam Sandler confronted Donkey Kong in the atrocious Pixels.

Unfortunately, everything about Pixels is best forgotten, even if its Donkey Kong segment wasn't too awful in the context of the rest of the mind-numbing film. If you're still recovering from Sandler's video game skills, this live-action version of Dokney Kong from MyNameIsBanks just might be what the doctor ordered. Visually, i's a more serious take on Donkey Kong, but it still captures all the fun elements of the classic game fans know and love.

Picture a more gritty, 3D version of Nintendo's game, and this is likely what you would come up with. It looks almost like something from a Zack Snyder film. The short even goes into first-person for a time, as Mario leaps and climbs his way to the top. While the video's visuals are impressive enough, it's how MyNameIsBanks syncs Mario's action with a cool new take on Donkey Kong's iconic music and sound effects that really makes the video worth watching.

Each jump adds to the tune. Once Mario acquires the almighty power of the hammer, dubstep blares as he smashes his way to victory. His conquest is short-lived, however, as another familiar Mario villain appears to kidnap Peach once again. Mario just can't catch a break.

However, even if Mario's princess seems to be forever in another castle, at least it paves the way for a Super Mario Maker in real-life video that MyNameIsBanks is teasing. If it's anything like this Donkey Kong short, it will most definitely be one to watch out for in the coming months. You can check out the entire video below.
