Nintendo's Super Mario Maker already includes various cameos from a number of video game characters in the form of costumes, but the Wii U exclusive game is about to get its most interesting costume yet in the form of Babymetal.

Yes, that Babymetal, the Japanese heavy metal band fronted by three young girls. The downloadable costume will be a single sprite that features all three of the band's singers, Suzuka Nakamoto, Yui Mizuno and Moa Kikuch. The girls even say lyrics from some of their songs as they jump around the environment.

It seems like a bizarre choice for a costume in Super Mario Maker at first, and it kind of is. After all, the singers of Babymetal aren't exactly video game characters. In fact, their inclusion make the group one of the few non-game costumes in Super Mario Maker.

So far, it looks like the free DLC will only be available in Japan, though there is always a possibility of it coming stateside. Babymetal does actually have more than a few U.S. fans, after all. The band recently appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where it performed one of its most popular songs, "Gimme Chocolate!!" for all the nation to see. The official Late Show video for the performance has more than three million views, while Babymetal's original music video for the song has more than 48 million. Babymetal even has an upcoming American tour as part of the release of its latest album, Metal Resistance.

There is no denying the band's growing popularity. Its signature blend of Japanese pop with the thrashing guitar and drums more often heard in American metal makes for a unique sound that can't be found anywhere else. You can check out the trailer for Super Mario Maker's Babymetal costume below. Unfortunately, the band's signature music doesn't look like it will be included in the free DLC.

In other Nintendo news, the company announced that its next console, codenamed NX, will officially be launching in March of next year. Nintendo's long-awaited new installment in the Legend of Zelda franchise has been delayed out of 2016 and into 2017, where it will launch for both the Wii U and the NX.
