Good news for HTC 10 fans in the U.S. and the UK: the unlocked edition of the smartphone will start shipping in early May.

That's just around the corner, so customers should start receiving their preordered units in just a few days. The confirmation comes from none other than HTC's own Jeff Gordon (@urbanstrata), the company's Senior Global Online Communications Manager.

Gordon has been a reliable source for any HTC-related updates, regularly posting new information on Twitter about upcoming updates, devices, options and other HTC goodies.

Now, Gordon has responded to a customer's question regarding when his unlocked HTC 10 will arrive, confirming that preorders are set to start shipping next week in the US.

When another customer asked about the UK timeframe, Gordon mentioned roughly the same timeline.

Gordon did not offer any specific rollout date, but his "early May" timeframe confirms that the smartphone will be shipping in less than a month since preorders kicked off on April 14 in the United States.

Other than buying the unlocked version of the smartphone, customers don't really have many options for now, at least not in the United States. Verizon is currently the only U.S. carrier to offer the HTC 10, whereas Sprint will start carrying the device on May 13 both online and in physical retail locations.

T-Mobile has yet to announce specific launch and pricing details for the HTC 10, while AT&T confirmed that it will not be offering the device at all. Nevertheless, the unlocked version of the HTC 10 is compatible with AT&T's network.

In fact, the unlocked HTC 10 works on any GSM network, which means that HTC fans on AT&T and T-Mobile, or any other GSM carrier, can grab the smartphone right now and have it by the end of next week.

The HTC 10 is shaping up as the company's saving grace, after HTC notably slipped behind rivals in recent years. Its One M7 and One M8 might have been riding the high tide, but subsequent smartphones failed to generate as much interest. The HTC 10 is now here to turn HTC's fortunes around, proving that it can still be a powerful player in the ever-competitive smartphone market.
