There are countless apps available to keep diehard sports fans in the know about their favorite teams, along with game highlights and scores. While users can download the Yahoo Sports app, or even the Yahoo Fantasy Sports app, these apps are missing highlights from one sect: professional eSports.

Now, Yahoo is changing this by releasing a new eSports app that serves as a centralized hub for news, updates and highlights within the realm of competitive video games.

Launched on Friday for iOS, the app called Yahoo ESports provides users with news, league scores, live streams and real-time tournament broadcast coverage.

Games that are covered include: League of Legends, Dota 2, Counter-Strike: GO, Heroes of the Storm and Street Fighter V.

Once the user downloads the app, they will be able to tap on which video game they are interested in and find all the latest info. This includes if there is a match on any given day, along with scores to previous matches. Tap on a match to see the score on the top, along with a video of the match and tournament info.

Users can tap on the "News" icon located at the bottom of the page to bring up articles and videos created by Yahoo Esports. These stories and videos appear in a card-like interface where users can comment and share.

To jump to another game, tap on the three-line icon in the top left corner. Users can also turn off and on spoilers and enable notifications in the Settings through this drop-down menu if they want to be alerted when a match is about to start.

Yahoo Esports also recommends other related apps such as its option for fantasy sports.

This isn't the only app dedicated to competitive eSports that is available. TheScore previously launched a similar app last year. ESPN also has an eSports section on its site, something Yahoo added to its site just a few months ago.

Even though Yahoo seems to be on its last legs, it's smart of the company to branch out into this market, especially since eSports is estimated to generate $325 million from brands from sponsorships and advertising this year. According to the research firm Newzoo, the eSports market is expected to reach $1.1 billion by 2019.

Yahoo Esports is available to download for free for iOS.
