Square Enix game producer and designer Akitoshi Kawazu took to Twitter Saturday to announce that the company is "working now" on an English version of the PlayStation Vita version of Romancing SaGa 2.

In his announcement, he also asked fans to show a little patience while they wait for the game.

This is an interesting turn of events for Romancing SaGa fans. Though it is unfortunate that we'll have to wait a bit longer for a PS Vita port, the situation is better than what last month's news implied. The game's official Twitter account had announced we would see a finally worldwide release of Romancing SaGa 2, but back then it made no mention of any plans to release the PS Vita version outside Japan.

It's been quite the journey for the Romancing SaGa series. The original was introduced on the Super Famicom in 1992, but it was only in 2005 that it was released on the PlayStation 2 in North America. Romancing SaGa 2 has experienced an even greater disparity in release dates, with the original being released on the Super Famicom in 1995, but needed more than two decades before it finally saw a worldwide release.

The day in question came Thursday, May 26, when Romancing SaGa 2 was released outside Japan on the iOS and Android for $17.99. Of course, even though we were fortunate to get our hands on the game after all this time, Japan has had access to the Vita and mobile ports of the game since March 24, and even then, they were originally slated for a Winter 2015 release but had been delayed because of some performance issues.

At least it has fared better than the last game in the series, Romancing SaGa 3, which was originally released on the Super Famicom in 1995 and has been a Japan exclusive ever since.

In the meantime, much like the original game, Romancing Saga 2 has a few upgrades that set it apart from the Super Famicom version. For starters, while it still retains the old character sprites, it now has brand-new backgrounds and battle graphics. In addition, the game includes new classes and a dungeon that was introduced in the 2010 mobile port.
