The latest rumors of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 edge hint that the next-generation smartphone may sport dual cameras.

Samsung launched the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge+ in August 2015. This year, the company is said to skip the name Note "6" and may call the phablet Note "7" instead. Samsung is also believed to be unveiling the curved display Note 7 edge along with the Galaxy Note 7.

Various rumors of the Galaxy Note 6/7 and the curved version of the phablet have been making rounds in the tech industry. Chinese publication Zol reports that the Galaxy Note 7 edge may have a dual camera setup. Zol reports that Samsung Electro-Mechanics (Semco) is already working on a dual cameras lens for Samsung's next-gen smartphone.

Speculation is rife that Apple is also planning to introduce dual cameras on its iPhone 7 Plus, which is expected to be launched in September this year. Dual cameras are already available on some mobile phones, such as the Huawei P9 and LG G5. It makes sense for Samsung to introduce dual cameras in its flagship devices and compete with rivals.

In addition to the dual cameras, the Galaxy Note 7 edge is also said to sport a 5.8-inch RGB AMOLED screen. A powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 823 processor and 6 GB of RAM are said to power the device.

The majority of flagship smartphones launched in 2016 include a fingerprint scanner, which brings extra protection to handsets. If rumors are to be believed, then the Galaxy Note 7 edge will not only have a fingerprint sensor, but the device will also boast a retina scanner.

The Galaxy Note 7 edge may also be dust- and water-resistant. The phablet may have the same storage options as its predecessor, but Samsung may bring back a microSD card slot, which is one of the much-wanted features in the device.

Given that Samsung may launch the Galaxy Note 7 edge in August this year, the upcoming handset may come running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow instead of Android N.

Samsung has not yet confirmed any specs or estimated launch windows for the Galaxy Note 7 edge. More rumors will emerge over the next few months, and they should be taken with a pinch of salt.
