It's no surprise that God of War 4 rumors are everywhere now. Even if Sony's E3 2016 press conference wasn't just a few hours away, gamers have been waiting for over six years for a new entry in the series — combine that with a concept art leak back in April and the re-release of God of War III last year, and it's easy to see why fans are excited to see Kratos return.

That being said, there's been no concrete evidence that Kratos will be making a return. Save for the concept art, Sony hasn't even hinted at the possibility of a new God of War game — granted, the publisher could simply be waiting for its big E3 showcase, but usually, there'd be some hint that the game was in production. Yes, it's a no-brainer that Sony would want to make another God of War game, but you'd think that there'd have been something concrete at this point.

Well, according to an "industry insider," there's no reason to speculate anymore: God of War 4 will indeed be at Sony's E3 press conference this year.

Shinobi602 (via VG24/7), the industry insider who seemingly leaked the recently-revealed Skyrim: Special Edition, is now claiming that one of Sony's premier franchises will be making a return later today. The game may not necessarily be called God of War 4, and Kratos may not be the central protagonist — but according to Shinobi602, God of War will be at E3.

If you hadn't already guessed, there's a lot to be skeptical about with this latest rumor. Yes, it makes sense that God of War 4 would be at Sony's show this year — no one's arguing that — but one unverified claim does not confirm a story.

Again, Shinobi602 was behind the recent rumors of a Skyrim current-gen remaster, which did turn out to be true. It's not as if Shinobi602 is behind a bunch of bogus leaks — but even so, it's a single unverified source. As enticing as the idea of a new God of War is, fans shouldn't get their hopes up until Sony makes an official announcement.

As previously stated, Sony's E3 2016 press conference is set to kick off later tonight — if God of War 4 is set to make its debut, that's when it'll happen. Otherwise ... well, God of War fans will probably have to wait a while longer.
