Crash Bandicoot is being remastered for the PlayStation 4, a comeback made possible by a partnership between Sony and Activision.

Sony made the announcement during its E3 2016 press conference, where it was revealed as well that Crash will also be part of the upcoming game Skylanders Imaginators. Aside from the original game, Crash Bandicoot 2 and Crash Bandicoot Warped will also have remastered versions for the PS4.

Earlier in the month, Alcom, a Swiss retailer, listed the series for the PS4, sparking speculations about the game's return. However, as with any rumor, news of the listing was treated with skepticism, although many were undoubtedly excited about the prospect of the popular video game returning.

Still, while the listing cannot be verified at the time, it didn't come out of the blue. A lot of attention has been on Crash Bandicoot in recent months, especially after PlayStation Latin America posted Crash's picture for Throwback Thursday. It looked like the photo was new artwork for the game at first glance but it was simply a scan from an old magazine that has been retouched. However, given the effort that went into posting one tweet, many questioned why Sony would do that.

Back in February, a toymaker at the New York Toy Fair let slip that Crash Bandicoot was being brought back by Sony. However, he retracted what he said and clarified that what he meant to say was that if Crash was indeed making a comeback, he would like to do figures of the video game series.

And now we have our confirmation.

Originally created by Naughty Dog, Crash Bandicoot first came out in 1996 on the PlayStation. It has had many iterations over the years (18 games total across platforms!) but the last Crash was seen was in Crash Nitro Kart, which was released in 2010. Fans were left wondering about the fate of the beloved character after that, only getting a proper update from Sony at E3 2016.

Aside from Crash Bandicoot, Sony also announced a few other titles in the works during its E3 2016 press conference, like God of War, The Last Guardian, Detroit: Become Human, Resident Evil VII, Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Death Stranding and Spider-Man.

In Skylanders Imaginators, Crash will be joining Spyro from Spyro's Adventure. Skylanders Imaginators is set to come out in Australia/New Zealand on Oct. 13, in the U.K. on Oct. 14 and in the U.S. on Oct. 16.
