Fans either loved or hated Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but one thing is now for certain: he will return as the iconic villain in Justice League.

Eisenberg himself confirmed to ShortList that Luthor would put in an appearance in the movie, which is currently filming. Eisenberg will go to work on the production in August.

The actor also commented on how he would like to "play Lex Luthor for years" and hopes that the character "stays alive throughout the next few films."

This comes after his controversial performance in Batman v Superman that had some fans questioning some of his choices about the infamous Superman villain. However, that film in general became a huge disappointment for DC, so much so that the company reorganized its film division and put some new people in charge. The fallout from Batman v Superman also saw The Flash director Seth Grahame-Smith get fired in favor of someone with more experience.

Even the Justice League movie hasn't survived the Batman v Superman debacle: there's also conflicting information as to whether that movie will be done in two parts or just one. Director Zack Snyder seems to believe two parts are in the works, but producer Deborah Snyder recently stated that there's only ever been plans for one movie.

Eisenberg also spoke about his love for the role of Luthor and the challenge that portraying the character gave him.

"It's very exciting for me to play that role," he said. "And, secondarily, it's interesting to be in these massive, high-profile movies, because all the stuff around you as an actor is really good. All the artists are really great, so you walk onto a set and it's the most detailed, comprehensive set, and as an actor it really fills in your imagination in a special way."

Eisenberg also commented on the cast he got to work with on Batman v Superman.

"You're also acting with incredible actors," he said. "In the last movie I had lots of scenes with Holly Hunter, who has been one of my favorite actors since I was young. This all exists because this movie is so massive that they attract so many talented people, even in smaller positions. It was really special to me."

When ShortList asked about the plot of Justice League, though, Eisenberg claimed that he had no idea. Although it's possible he doesn't know, it's also as likely that he signed an NDA when he agreed to reprise the role of Luthor in the new movie.
