Now that Samsung has announced it will launch the Galaxy Note 7 on Aug. 2, smartphone fans are wondering when it will go on sale. A new report claims its release date will also take place on Aug. 2.

Samsung is gearing up for a busy August, as it will launch its next-generation Galaxy Note 7 and take part in the 2016 Rio Olympics as one of the game's biggest sponsors. The company has already revealed its special edition Galaxy S7 Edge Olympic Edition, and a new report claims the Galaxy Note 7 will be released prior to the start of the games, which begin on Aug. 5.

We reported in June that an invite for an upcoming Samsung Unpacked event leaked and revealed the launch date for the Galaxy Note 7. Samsung just announced that it will indeed launch the Galaxy Note 7 at a press event on Aug. 2, and now, a new report claims the company will also release its new smartphone on the same day.

The report comes out of Korea and claims that Samsung decided to push forward the release of the Galaxy Note 7 by about one month, in large part to capitalize on the success it has seen with the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. A representative from the telecommunications industry told the publication that Samsung has already secured supplies of the Note 7 in advance in order to release the phablet on Aug. 2.

This isn't the first time Samsung has pushed up the release of its latest Galaxy Note. The company previously launched each generation of the phablet at IFA Berlin, which normally takes place in September, but decided to launch last year's Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ in mid-August, reportedly to get a head start on Apple's iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

The report appears to validate claims that Samsung was planning to start mass production of the Galaxy Note 7 in July, with plans to have five million phablets built for its August release.

The Galaxy Note 7 will reportedly feature a 5.7-inch Quad HD curved edge display, will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon or Samsung Exynos processor (depending on region) and 4 GB of RAM.

The phablet's camera capabilities will reportedly consist of a 12 megapixel rear camera and front-facing 5 megapixel snapper for selfies and video chat. One of its top new features is expected to be an advanced iris scanner that will allow users to unlock the device, open applications and authorize Samsung Pay mobile payments with an eye scan.

As always, we'll keep you posted on any new Galaxy Note 7 news as it becomes available. Do you think Samsung will actually launch and release the Galaxy Note 7 on Aug. 2? Please let us and our readers know in the comments below.
