The Inhumans, as a group, may have made their debut on the Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. television show in season two, but it seemed like Marvel was holding back the major Inhuman characters most fans would be familiar with for their eventual movie debut. Prominent Inhuman leaders like Black Bolt and Medusa were nowhere to be seen, with the show instead creating a number of new Inhuman characters for S.H.I.E.L.D. to deal with.

That might be changing in future seasons of the show. As revealed over the weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, it sounds like fans can expect to see iconic Inhuman characters make their Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the seasons ahead. For those not in the know, Inhumans are a race of Kree/Human hybrids that often undergo a radical transformation after being exposed to a substance known as the Terrigen Mists.

"We do have a little more freedom," says executive producer Jed Whedon (via iO9). "We've told a couple of seasons of stories but now we do have some more freedom. So when we return to focusing on Inhumans, we'll be able to do a little bit more." Whedon goes on to say that freedom includes featuring "classic" Inhuman characters.

Though Whedon doesn't specifically mention what characters fans can expect to see, "classic" kind of narrows it down. He's likely talking about the Inhuman royal family, which consists of Black Bolt, Medusa, Crystal, Gorgon, Karnak and (hopefully) Lockjaw.

Many of those characters were expected to make their debut in Marvel's Inhuman film. However, the fate of that movie is now uncertain, as it has been completely removed from Marvel's release schedule. Whatever the reason for the delay, it appears to be working in favor of the creative team behind Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

It is because of the upcoming, now-delayed Inhuman film that many Marvel Comic fans assumed the company to be putting a new-found emphasis on the Inhumans in the comics. Recent events have seen the birth of thousands of new Inhumans on Earth, while those same events have proven to be deadly to Earth's mutants. Soon, the two super-powered races will face off in Marvel's upcoming Inhuman vs. X-Men event. Whether it's in Marvel's movies, shows or comics, it doesn't appear that the Inhumans are going anywhere soon.
