Attention, kids everywhere: It is now possible to safeguard rooms with booby traps to keep prying eyes at bay with littleBits' new Rule Your Room Kit.

First and foremost, it should be cleared up that the ambushing devices are harmless, but they are more than enough to let snoopers know that they aren't welcome and should mind their own business.

Even without an electrical engineering degree or know-how, children here and there can improve the security of their rooms without breaking much of a sweat DIY style. That means diaries are safe, piggy banks are protected, computers are kept away from harm and practically anything else that holds value.

Going over what's included, the Rule Your Room Kit comes with 7 color-coded Bits, those Lego-like pieces that allow the traps to function; 19 accessories; a 76-page booklet (PDF) with step-by-step instructions on how to craft the devices and the tools to build them.

To be exact, the set of Bits consists of a bargraph, a buzzer, a dimmer, a sound trigger, a servo and a power component. There's also a Makey Makey Bit mixed in, and for those who don't know, it's a module that allows practically anything to turn into a touch-sensitive controller.

On an interesting note, if anyone might recall, the Makey Makey was also used to turn a lipstick into a functioning controller to play Counter-Strike.

As for the price, it's a lot more affordable compared with the other kits that littleBits has in store, coming in with a $99.95 price tag, but it does have fewer components. At any rate, it's still an A-OK entry point to get started on these DIY packages, not to mention that it's bundled with a Makey Makey out of the box, which is usually sold separately.

Availability-wise, it's already up for preorder at the company's official website, and it's expected to roll out on Aug. 15. To guarantee happiness, the "no-questions-asked returns" applies to it, and it ships out free of charge in the United States.
