Finnish activity tracker and heart sensor maker Polar has launched its first Android Wear-based fitness smartwatch called Polar M600.

On Aug. 3, Polar announced the M600 and the company revealed that the smartwatch has proprietary optical heart rate technology that provides wrist-based heart rate measurement via a 6-LED solution. The wearable also offers integrated GPS and activity tracking. Users will be able to access Polar Smart Coaching features through the Polar App, which is available for Android Wear.

Polar says that the M600 is designed as a stylish accessory as well as an active training device. The company's latest smartwatch is waterproof, which makes it ideal for outdoor use. It has a sleek design, 1.3-inch touch display and a dedicated button on the front for easy and quick training control.

Polar claims that the battery in the M600 can last for more than 48 hours while connected to compatible Android devices. Polar M600 has a changeable, comfortable and soft silicone wristband that is available in Powder White or Charcoal Black. A vibrant red hue band will be released later in 2016.

"Polar is known for bringing smarts into sports. Polar created the first heart rate monitor, the first activity tracker and now we're the first true sports wearables company to announce a smartwatch truly made for sports. Powered by Android Wear, Polar M600 offers our customers countless opportunities to customize their smartwatch and still rely on the unique Polar sports wearable experience that is at its core," says Marco Suvilaakso, the chief strategy officer at Polar.

The Polar M600 could be a great sports watch for customers looking for GPS tracking, wireless music streaming and a heart rate monitor in a smartwatch. It has 4 GB of on-board storage, which can precisely be used for storing music files.

Polar has launched a Polar Running Program that offers training to runners planning for full or half marathon. Polar M600 owners will have free access to this program.

"Running Program is a running plan made just for you and your needs. You choose from four target distances, 5K, 10K, half-marathon and marathon, and then you specify the date when you'd like to run that distance," says Polar.

"Each running workout in the Running Program consists of these elements: workout type, duration, phases and training time in specific heart rate zones."

Polar did not reveal an exact release date for its latest wearable but said that the M600 will be released globally later in 2016. In the U.S., the M600 will bear a price tag of $329.90, while customers in Europe will have to pay €349.90.
