Renders of Sony's next smartphone dubbed the Xperia XR have leaked online, and reports suggest that the handset will be launched in September.

The Japanese mobile phone maker has already launched a number of devices this year including the new Xperia X line that has three handsets: Xperia X, XA and X Performance. These Sony devices were unable to attract the attention of many customers, which may have caused the company to launch another handset in the line this year.

Rumors of an unannounced Sony phone with model number F8331 have been doing the rounds in the tech space for several months, which could be the Xperia XR. Now, @OnLeaks has posted some renders of Xperia XR, which gives a glimpse of what Sony's next flagship may look like.

The leaked renders suggest that the upcoming Sony handset will have similar design aspects found on the smartphones in the Xperia X line. But if the leaked renders are to be believed then the Xperia XR will be the first to have a Dual-LED flash system and USB Type-C port.

The leaked images of the Xperia XR showing the device in a blue hue do not reveal any hardware specs of the phone. However, previous rumors suggest that the Xperia XR will have a Full HD screen measuring 5.1 inches or 5.3 inches.

@OnLeaks tweeted that the Xperia XR will measure 146.4 x 71.9 x 8.1 millimeters, or 5.76 x 2.83 x 0.31 inch, which suggests that the device could also have a 5.5-inch display.

Under the hood would be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and probably 3 GB of RAM. Although many smartphone makers have launched their flagship phones with 6 GB of RAM, customers will hope that the Xperia XR includes at least 4 GB of RAM to boost performance.

The next-gen Sony mobile phone may come packed with a 23-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 13-megapixel selfie camera.

All phones in the Sony Xperia series come with a microSD card slot, so it is highly likely that Sony will include that card slot in the rumored Xperia XR.

The Xperia XR will probably run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow straight out of the box.

Sony has not confirmed a launch date for the Xperia XR. However, the upcoming 2016 IFA at Berlin that kicks off on Sept. 4 could be a great platform for the company to launch its new device.
