Xbox One Is US’ Best-Selling Console For July

Microsoft has announced that the Xbox One has outsold the PlayStation 4 in the United States for July based on data from The NPD Group's report for the month.

This isn't the first time that the Xbox One managed to outsell the competition from Sony but the PlayStation 4 has generally dominated console sales since the two were released. The last time that Xbox One came out on top in terms of monthly sales was in October 2015.

"We're honored that Xbox One was the best-selling console in the U.S. in July, and that total gaming hours on Xbox consoles globally were up 18 percent over last year, reaching 1.55 billion hours," said Mike Nichols, Xbox marketing head.

Xbox One outselling the PS4 is definitely noteworthy, but more so because it managed to do so with another Xbox console hitting the market the following month: the Xbox One S. Having two Xbox Ones could have easily led to losses for one model but thanks to some nifty sales in July, the Xbox One not only managed to hold its ground but also outperformed the PS4.

The Xbox One S didn't do shabbily either, with the limited-edition 2 TB model getting sold out in the UK and nearly sold out in the U.S. And as it is of the limited edition variety, the 2 TB Xbox One S will not be restocked, according to Microsoft.

Those in the U.S. who wish to get their hands on the 2 TB Xbox One S can still try their luck, however, with some local retailers that may still have stocks to sell. That or they can wait for the Gears of War 4-themed console when it comes out on Oct. 7. The blood-red Xbox One will also have 2 TB worth of storage, but it will be pricier, coming at $449.99 compared to the launch edition version's $399.99.

While the 2 TB model has sold out, other storage variants of the Xbox One S will be available starting Aug. 23, like the 500 GB model that will come bundled with Halo: 5 Guardians and Halo: The Master Chief Collection and the 1 TB model for the Madden NFL 17 bundle.

The 500 GB Xbox One S will retail for $299 while the 1 TB model will be available for $349.
