Close on the heels of the Huawei Mate 9 getting listed on a benchmarking site, images of the impending handset have surfaced online.

Images of the metal chassis of a mysterious Huawei smartphone - believed to be the upcoming Mate 9 - have leaked online, showing off the handset's much-rumored dual camera setup.

The leaked images of the Huawei Mate 9 were published on Weibo, which is the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, on Sunday, Aug. 14. The leakster also shared the specs of the Huawei Mate 9 along with three images of the smartphone.

One of the leaked images is of the device's metal chassis and points to a dual camera for the Huawei Mate 9, much like that of its sibling the Huawei P9, which also sports a dual camera setup. The image also shows the presence of a fingerprint scanner on the rear of the handset, placed below the dual camera.

The two camera sensors are also flanked by two cutouts, which are possibly in place for the dual-LED Flash and the Laser Autofocus. The bottom of the chassis in another image shows the presence of a USB Type-C port, as well as two cutouts possibly for speaker grills and two cutouts for screws.

A possibility exists that Huawei will only include a single speaker in the Mate 9 and the other cutout is for aesthetics and the microphone. That said, if the company opts for two speakers that support stereo sound, the Mate 9 could be quite a compelling device!

Interestingly, the leaked chassis does not sport the Huawei branding but looks uncannily like the Huawei Mate 8 - the predecessor of the Mate 9 that debuted in December 2015.

The leakster has also shared the alleged specs of the Huawei Mate 9, which are consistent with previous rumors. The handset will apparently sport a 5.9-inch FHD screen and house a Kirin 960 processor clocked at 2.6 GHz. The Mate 9 could come with either 4 GB or 6 GB of RAM.

The Mate 9 will come pre-loaded with the new Android 7.0 Nougat OS at launch, according to the leakster. The only inconsistency is when it comes to the megapixel count for the primary camera. The current leak points to a 16-megapixel one, whereas previous rumors have hinted at a 20-megapixel dual camera.

While speculations are rife that the Mate 9 will debut at the IFA 2016, Huawei has asserted that the handset will not launch at the event.

The Mate 9 is anticipated to launch in time for the holiday season with Huawei's Super Charge battery and charging system.
