Just because Sony's PlayStation Plus subscription costs are going up doesn't mean much will change. Subscribers are still getting free games each and every month, and September's newly-revealed free game lineup is one of the better ones in recent memory.

Headlining the month is Journey, the critically-acclaimed indie darling that won numerous awards when it released back in 2012. Since then, it has been re-released a few different times, including on PS4, and now, millions of players will be able to check out the unique experience offered by the game for free.

"Finding yourself alone in the desert, you must make your way to the mountaintop," writes Sony in its official PS Plus blog post. "But there's so much more to this sublime experience than simply traversing the world. With stunning visuals, an amazing soundtrack, and a unique online experience, don't miss the very special experience that is Journey."

If the mellow experience of Journey doesn't do much for you, the punishing action RPG Lords of the Fallen may hold your attention a little better.

"Looking for redemption for past sins, you play as Harkyn and try to end a war between humans and the gods," Sony's blog reads. "With three classes to choose from, you can tailor the combat experience to your liking. And in a game where every encounter matters and your choices have consequences, the layers of customization are an integral part of the action. So collect your gear and prepare for close-quarters combat as you take the fight to the demon lords."

Both Journey and Lords of the Fallen are available for PS4, though Journey is also a cross-buy title on PS3. For gamers who have yet to upgrade to a PS4, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands and Datura will both be available for free in September on PS3, along with Amnesia: Memories and Badland for the PS Vita. Badland is also available on PS4 and PS3, so in reality, PS4 owners are receiving three free games this month, while PS3 owners can snag four. Not too shabby.

Of course, starting in September, PS Plus owners will be paying more for their free games than in months past. Sony recently announced that a yearly subscription to PS Plus is being raised $10 to $59.99 starting on Sept. 22. The price of a three-month membership is being raised from $18 to $25, with a one-month membership remaining at $10.
