We are all guilty of trying to zoom in on a photo someone is showing us, only to realize it's on Instagram, which doesn't support that function.

However, now, the social media platform is finally adding this feature, something we might not have known we really need but will be really happy with now that it is here.

The truth is we are all guilty of social media stalking. This can range from innocently looking at a "friend's" photo to then falling down the rabbit hole to check out everything they've been up to since high school, to more deliberately checking in on an ex or what a significant other is up to after a break-up or when "on a break."

However, this can be very dangerous when doing so on Instagram. That's because a tap on the screen can result in a user accidentally liking the photo. What's worse is if this unfortunate situation happens on a picture posted months beforehand. Talk about getting caught peeping red-handed.

Now, Instagram is helping its users do their detective work and stalk on the down-low.

Instagram announced the launch of a new feature on Wednesday, Aug. 31, called Zoom that allows users to get up close and personal with posts without having to tap on the image to bring it up from the feed.

While this helps prevent exposing that a user was creeping, its main function is to allow users to get a good look at all the details in a photo, regardless of the user's intentions to do so.

Instagram Zoom marks the first time users can zoom in and out of photos on the app. While this might seem like a small new feature to add, it's major for those who are used to pinching to zoom in on photos on their iPhone and then being frustrated when they remember they can't do so when trying to show off an Instagram photo.

Also, just like zooming in on iPhones, Zoom on Instagram works the very same way.

Here's how to use the new feature:

Users start by putting their pointer finger on top of their thumb to make the pinch motion.

Expand the two fingers away from each other to zoom in on a specific detail or just get a closer look in general.

To zoom out, drag the pointer finger and thumb back to the pinch position.

Now, Instagram users can really see where that random guy's hands were in the club next to their girlfriend or see the exact color eyeshadow their favorite makeup blogger is wearing.

Users can use Zoom on both photos and videos in their main Feed, in profile pages and in the Explore tab.

Instagram's new Zoom feature is now available as part of an app update for iOS, with Android compatibility expected to come in the near future.
