Watching a shark feeding frenzy on the Discovery Channel is scary enough, but imagine watching one unfold just a few feet in front of you.

That's what is happening here in this video taken by Donnie Griggs. He captured the footage on Oct. 8 at Cape Lookout National Seashore in North Carolina. The person who uploaded the video, Brian Recker, says a group of men from One Harbor Church were looking to catch some fish for dinner when they came across a shark feeding frenzy. According to Recker, more than 100 sharks were on the scene attacking a school of blue gill fish extremely close to the shore.

For more than five minutes the men watched the frenzy unfold as sharks swarmed the coastline, thrashing back and forth. A few sharks beached themselves on the sand, whipping their tails back and forth as they struggled to push themselves back into the water. As pelicans and seagulls began to join in on the fish festivities, so too did the men watching. Recker says they strolled into the surf and began to catch fish without using any bait. Fishing doesn't get much easier than that, as long as you avoid the sharks.

It makes for one heck of a video, but Recker is sure to point out that the feeding frenzy doesn't make the North Carolina coast unsafe for beach goers. It's quite the contrary, he writes, saying in the video description that the presence of the sharks and large schools of fish is a sign of a healthy ecosystem. That may be the case, but nobody would blame you if you decided not to frequent coastlines known for shark feeding frenzies.
