Monica Lewinsky was arguably the most famous woman in the United States during the late '90s. It's not often that the President is caught in bed with a woman that isn't his wife, and the subsequent media reaction was explosive.

The case was absolutely everywhere; there wasn't a single station that wasn't reporting on the scandal. Lewinsky was a household name, and it wasn't until years later that the young woman was able to fade from notoriety. For nearly a decade, Ms. Lewinsky has remained obscure...though that seems to have changed today.

That's right, Monica Lewinsky just joined Twitter.

For those wondering if the account is actually real (as many fake accounts appear on Twitter from time to time), the site has already verified Ms. Lewinsky's account. Basically, Twitter has confirmed that this is the real deal. What's more amazing is the speed in which Lewinsky has dominated the site: in just a few short hours following activation, the account has gathered well over 10,000 followers.

Considering the size and scale of the scandal that Ms. Lewinsky was involved in during the late '90s, most people probably expected her to try and fade away into obscurity. Following the allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct with then-President Clinton, Lewinsky originally tried to put her life back together, but eventually decided to leave the U.S. in order to avoid attention. Throughout the first decade of the new millennium, Ms. Lewinsky managed to do so, though given her sudden reappearance on social media, public attention may no longer be an issue.

It's still unclear as to why Ms. Lewinsky suddenly decided to join Twitter, but perhaps this reemergence into the public's eye will help her move forward with her life. Maybe she's gearing up for the inevitable reality show that the world is craving.

Or, she'll get harassed non-stop and leave the site...this is Twitter, after all.
