A Nintendo representative, however, has revealed the decision behind the name of the Nintendo Switch, showing the mindset that the company has for the highly anticipated device.

In the latest issue of the Japanese magazine Nintendo Dream, a spokesperson for Nintendo revealed that there are two reasons why the hybrid console was given the Nintendo Switch name.

The first reason is that the name represents the defining feature of the Nintendo Switch, which is the ability to be used as both a tabletop gaming console and a handheld gaming device. As shown in the announcement trailer for the Nintendo Switch, players will be able to seamlessly switch between the two modes, with the device functioning as the console and controller while in tabletop mode and additionally as the display when in handheld mode.

The second reason for the Nintendo Switch name is related to a much bigger thing, as Nintendo is looking to change the overall video game experience with the hybrid console. According to the Nintendo spokesperson, the company is planning to have the device function as the switch that will change the way people experience their daily dose of entertainment.

The Purpose Of The Announcement Trailer

The Nintendo spokesperson added that in the company's announcement trailer of the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo wanted to communicate the enjoyable difference that the hybrid console will make in the entertainment experiences of customers. With the Nintendo Switch's features, it will be able to offer users different playing experiences that other devices would not be able to.
